The district of Santarem in Portugal is located in the central part of the country. Its administrative center was the city with the same name  of Santarém. The district is divided into 21 municipalities and is part of the Alentejo region, and the population reaches approximately 465,599 people. 

 

The city of Santarem can be called one of the most attractive and colorful in Portugal. That is why every year this place is visited by hundreds of travelers who want to get to know the culture and historical heritage of the country. This area is equally popular among foreign investors. First of all  Europeans tend to buy more apartments or houses here.

The city of Santarem is one of the largest in the area, with a population of almost 29,000 people. Of all the advertisements for the sale and rental of apartments in Santarem, foreigners are interested in precisely those that are located in the administrative center and other big cities.

 

Apartments. The block of flats here are buildings 2-4 floors high. As a rule, here you can find apartments with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms (the living room is not mentioned, since it should be in each apartment). For sale and rent in Santarém are often offered fully furnished and ready to move in.

Transport

Already from Lisbon sell train tickets to Santarém. Urban transport is represented by buses, taxis or rented cars. Buses run between the towns and settlements of the district.

Attractions

Basically, rural tourism is developed in Santarem, but fans of excursions will not stand aside either. 

Be sure to head to the castle and the clock tower, which are built in a unique style with a mixture of Gothic, Romanesque and Mannerist elements.  

 

The clock or pumpkin tower is a medieval building 27 meters high, on the roof of which there is a structure of 8 ceramic jugs. They amplified the sounds of the bell. 

 

Nearby is the Church of St. John the Baptist, founded in the 12th century. The building itself is made in the Baroque style, and the crucifix dating back to the 13th century is still kept in the church.

 

Do not refuse a trip to Santarém and gourmets. Local restaurants will certainly please you with original national dishes, and the wine produced in this area is considered the best in Portugal.
