Guarda is a highland district of Portugal, located northwest of the capital, Lisbon. Guarda is landlocked and borders Spain. The name of the capital of the region - Guarda - is translated as "guard". 

The territory of the district was an important part of the defensive line on the border with Spain. Moreover, nature itself favored this. Forts and fortresses preserved from the Middle Ages, as well as the purest mountain air - these are the main wealth of Guarda, attracting local and foreign tourists here. 

Despite the fact that Guarda is not the most industrialized district in Portugal, real estate here is valuable. This is due to the excellent geographical location and ideal ecology. A significant part of the real estate offers here belongs to the category of luxury housing. But there are also economy class options. Although there are not as many of them as in the country as a whole.

The sale and rental of apartments in Guarda in new buildings is a rather rare offer, as there are few construction projects in this region. Nonetheless you can find very good options in new houses - apartments with an area of ​​​​100 square meters. Most of the offers are furnished. 

The sale and rental of houses in Guarda in the category of economy class housing at a price practically does not differ from apartments. Of course, these are old buildings, but they are in a completely decent condition, although often not in the city center. However, in Portugal, with its small population and cities, for which 60,000 inhabitants are already many, the concepts of center and outskirts are very arbitrary. 

Having a more significant amount, you can well count on a comfortable country house with a well-groomed adjacent territory, perhaps even a small garden. For Portugal, houses of 200-300 square meters are quite common. Therefore, by spending several hundred thousand euros, you become the owner of a truly luxurious villa.

If you are planning an independent construction, then you can buy a land plot in Guarda. Land here is somewhat more expensive than in Portugal on average. But for this price, in addition to land with an area of ​​​​1,000 square meters, you also receive a building permit.

The capital of the district - the city of the same name Guarda - is located on a high plateau. Therefore, the path to it by Portuguese standards is not close. You will have to get from Lisbon, as soon as there is an international airport to which flights from many European cities. 

You can get from Lisbon to Guarda by train or by bus. The latter is faster, but the ticket price is higher. In general, ticket prices in Portugal vary greatly depending on the season and the carrier, so you should check them immediately before buying. 

In the city itself (Guarda) there is public transport in the form of several bus routes. But locals prefer such an environmentally friendly mode of transport as a bicycle. In Guarda, you can easily rent a bike, but remember that you must have identification documents with you, as well as proof of bike rental.

The region is rich in historical monuments and architectural structures. So do not be too lazy to spend a few days on excursions around the area. Along the way, you will also enjoy the beautiful nature of Guarda.

Despite the fact that the district is not coastal, the local cuisine is full of seafood dishes. In particular, Guarda is famous for its cod and octopus dishes. Special mention deserves the local cheese - Queijo da Serra - in honor of which the annual festival is held.
