Faro is the southernmost district of mainland Portugal, washed by the Atlantic Ocean from the south and west, and bordering Spain in the east. Beautiful nature, mild maritime climate, a large number of sights preserved from the Middle Ages and patriarchal life - all this makes Faro one of the most attractive regions of Portugal for foreign tourists.

You can get to Faro (the capital of the district) from Lisbon - today it is the only Portuguese city that has direct flights from many European countries.. Ticket prices and schedules change regularly, depending on the season and the whims of the local airline, so it’s better to check the price in advance. If you are ready to fly with transfers, then you can save some money by going not to Lisbon, but to Porto. 

You can get to the capital of the district - the city of the same name Faro - from both Lisbon and Porto without transfers by train. Travel time is 3 hours and 5 hours 40 minutes respectively. Ticket prices fluctuate greatly depending on the season. You can save up to 25% of the cost by booking a ticket in advance through the carrier's website. It should be borne in mind that the railway station is not located within the city, so be sure to take a taxi to get to the historic city center. 

There are also bus routes, but in Portugal this type of transport is not as convenient as in neighboring Spain. The road takes quite a lot of time, as the buses make many stops along the way, stopping even in small towns - the logistics leave much to be desired. 

In Faro itself, there are five bus routes that allow you to easily get to any part of the city. Alternatively, taxi services are available. 

Faro will definitely not disappoint those who come here for a beach holiday. Near almost every beach (and sometimes right on its territory) there are nightclubs and other places of entertainment where you can drink cocktails or local beer, enjoy light snacks, listen to music and dance. 

Holidays in Faro - a separate pleasure for lovers of shopping. Prices in Portugal are quite democratic even in comparison with inexpensive Spain. And in many supermarkets and shopping centers, each visitor will be offered a cup of coffee or a soft drink.

One of the main attractions of Faro is the natural reserve of Ria Formosa. In addition to natural beauties, here you can enjoy local cuisine with an abundance of seafood, go fishing, windsurfing or sailing, as well as diving.
