Coimbra is a  region in Portugal, located in the western part of the country on the Atlantic Ocean. The capital of the district - the city of the same name Coimbra - in the 12-13 centuries was the capital of the Portuguese kingdom. Today, the capital of the district is known primarily for the local University, which is one of the oldest in Europe.

Coimbra is a region stretching from west to east. Therefore, there are both coastal and continental regions. Associated with this is a wide range of real estate prices.

The most affordable option to become the owner of housing in Portugal is the sale and rental of apartments in Coimbra. At a fairly low cost  in the mainland of the district, you can find a 2-3-room apartment in a house no older than 10 years. Although the offers here start from lowprices , this is usually quite old housing, requiring investment in repairs.  The most expensive, but at the same time comfortable and prestigious real estate is located on the ocean coast. If you decide to buy a house there, you will not only get comfortable accommodation on the ocean, but also the opportunity to practice many water sports. 

There are a lot of expensive offers, which already quite claim to be elite housing. Houses and villas in the coastal part of the district are especially in great demand among foreigners. 

Buying a land plot in Coimbra is also quite easy. But most of the proposals are more expensive options with a building permit and an approved project, intended for commercial or residential construction. 

You will have to get to Coimbra from Lisbon or Porto - these two cities have major international airports. A bus ticket from Lisbon to Coimbra, the capital of the district, costs about 15 euros. Travel time is 2.5-3 hours. Routes leave every half an hour or an hour, so the traffic is quite intense. You can get from Porto to Coimbra in two hours. The ticket price is about 10 euros. 

Also with Lisbon and the Port of Coimbra, there is a train connection. Travel time by train is 2-3 hours from Lisbon and 1.5 hours from Porto. The ticket price, respectively, from 19 euros and from 13 euros.

In large cities of the district there is public transport in the form of comfortable buses. But many locals use bicycles - after all, the cities in Coimbra are relatively small. 

The coastal part of Coimbra is famous for its beaches and is very attractive for tourists. The mainland areas are not as popular, but there is something to see here too. First, it is a huge number of attractions. Secondly, shopping is of considerable interest to foreigners, thanks to affordable Portuguese prices.   

The university, founded in the capital of the district back in the 13th century, is one of the main attractions not only of Coimbra, but of Portugal as a whole. The life of almost half of all residents of the capital is connected with this educational institution - they work there as teachers, attendants, study in it. 

One of the main holidays of the region is Kema-das-Fitash, celebrated at the end of May. It is dedicated to the end of the school year. Students solemnly burn their robes that night and continue to walk until morning. They are joined by those who have long left the university behind. 

The traditional cuisine of Coimbra is considered the most typical of Portugal as a whole. There are many fish dishes on offer. Well, in the mainland, you will be treated to less exotic food, offering, for example, roasted lamb or suckling pig.
