Information
Costa Garraf is one of the most prestigious tourist areas of Spain, which is actually a suburb of Barcelona. Geographically the Costa Garraf is located about 35-50 kilometres away from the city. This region is characterized by a soft warm climate without extreme changes of temperature. Even in winter the water here is not getting colder than 15-16C, and in the summer it warms up to 26C.
The region started to be highlighted in the recent time, previously Costa Garraf was considered to be a part of the Costa Dorada, and therefore the largest tourist coast, Sitges, belongs to both the Garraf and Dorada.
Real State
Homes for sale and rent on the Costa Garraf is a profitable business, because the prices here are almost one and a half times higher than the average for Spain. This is explained by an excellent location on the Mediterranean coast, and the close position to Barcelona - one of the largest and the most attractive tourist cities in the country.
Although the sales and rent of apartments on the Costa Garraf have noticeably sunk after the financial crisis in 2008 (in some segments of the market the prices have been reduced), but compared to other Spanish regions, the crisis has affected Costa Garraf not so much. The most expensive real estate is in Sitges. In Sitges is represented mainly the elite real estate, which, combined with a high level of infrastructure development in the city dictates such prices. The most affordable part of the region is the coast of Vilanova-i-la-Geltru.
Apartments for sale and rent on the Costa Garraf are in great demand because of legal restrictions on the new construction. Besides, the topography of the northern part of the coast is not really advantageous for this goal, and a big part of the whole territory is reserved for national parks, where construction is prohibited. Almost the entire north coast is a buffer zone of the Barcelona Airport, which is why purchase of a piece of land on the Costa Garraf is not easy at all.
Currently, the value of real estate is gradually increasing in the region and shortage of offers is capable of provoking an abrupt price formation. Therefore, if you want to become the owner of a 2-3-room apartment, now is a good moment to buy it. However, you can find more budget offers. For instance, a small studio on the outskirts of Sitges can be bought at an affordable price. But this purchase would undoubtedly require investment for renovation. Also a small town for not very high prices is quite a good solution.
Villas for sale on the Costa Garraf are a costly purchase but if you want to live in a big house with your own garden or even swimming pool, it can be a perfect option for you.
Transport
The nearest to the coast airport is located in Barcelona. The developed road network and regular public transport - comfortable air-conditioned buses - allow to reach any city or town of the coast. There are also suburban electric trains which go to Barcelona. Trip to Sitges (which is on the other end of the coast) takes only 40 minutes. The cost of travel, depending on the distance.
To move all over the coast, you can use a taxi.
